Statutory agencies have a duty to ensure public safety - Beattie

9 July, 2019 - by Ciarán Beattie

Sinn Féin councillor Ciarán Beattie has said statutory agencies have a duty to ensure the safety of people, property and the environment from bonfires.

Councillor Beattie said:

"I welcome today's decision from Belfast City Council's Strategic Policy and Resources Committee to adhere to the decision reached at yesterday's meting to remove bonfire materials and flags from council owned properties at two locations.

"These are leisure facilities for the use of entire community; not bonfire site. People from all sections of the community should be able to use these facilities free from fear and intimidation.

“The relevant statutory agencies now have a duty and a responsibility to act in order to ensure the safety of a people, property and the environment."
