Flynn concern at Beechcroft pressures
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Mental Health Órlaithí Flynn has expressed concern at staff shortages being experienced at the regional Children’s Mental Health unit at Beechcroft.
The West Belfast MLA said: “Beechcroft provides the inpatient beds for some of the most vulnerable young people in our society. News that some young people have been admitted to adult wards is deeply concerning, especially when we consider the nature of their needs.
“It is important that those young people in need are admitted into a suitable therapeutic environment.
“Workforce shortages are a consistent challenge facing the Health and Social Care sector generally but often specialised services are disproportionately affected.
“In 2017 I wrote to the Belfast Trust seeking confirmation for the number of inpatient beds being provided in Beechcroft.
"I will be writing again to the Belfast Trust to explain how this situation was allowed to develop and what actions will be taken to ensure it does not happen again.”
