Coleraine arson attack a hate crime – Archibald

19 July, 2019 - by Caoimhe Archibald

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald has appealed for anyone with information in relation to a fire at Laurel Hill House in the early hours of Wednesday morning to bring it forward to the police.

The East Derry MLA said:

“The police have confirmed that they are treating this attack on a historic building as arson.

“They have since confirmed that they are also treating it as a hate crime as anti-Sinn Féin graffiti was sprayed on the walls.

“It is particularly concerning that this attack has taken place when the northwest is currently welcoming thousands of visitors to The Open in Portrush and this is not the image we want to be projecting.

“This attack will not deter us from providing first class service for everybody, regardless of their community background and we won’t be intimidated from representing those who elected us.

“I would urge anyone with information on the fire to bring it forward to the PSNI.”
