O’Reilly queries benefit of private hospital in Swords

24 July, 2019 - by Louise O'Reilly TD

Reacting to the news that planning permission will be sought for a new private hospital and urgent care centre in Swords, Sinn Féin spokesperson on Health and local TD Louise O’Reilly has said that “Swords and North County Dublin needs public healthcare facilities, not a private clinic catering to a minority”.

The Dublin Fingal TD continued:

“This announcement has of course been welcomed by Fine Gael. They claim that this is in line with Sláintecare. This is nonsense; Sláintecare is a vision for public health provision and this hospital is the polar opposite of that.

“The people of Swords deserve better than this. They want and deserve public healthcare available locally and based on clinical need, not ability to pay.”
