Ryder Cup will showcase the best of Limerick to the world – Quinlivan
Limerick City Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan today welcomed the news that the Ryder Cup will be held in Adare Manor in County Limerick in 2026.
Deputy Quinlivan said the Ryder Cup will showcase the very best of Limerick and Ireland to the world.
Speaking from Limerick today, Deputy Quinlivan said;
“It is absolutely fantastic news for Limerick, and for Ireland, that we will get the opportunity to host the Ryder Cup golf tournament in 2026 at Adare Manor.
“The global reach of this competition is staggering, with the tournament broadcast to more than 370 million homes around the world.
“This gives Limerick and Ireland a fantastic opportunity to showcase our island as a top tourist destination to millions of people, just as The Open in Portrush did last week.
“Hosting an event of this magnitude will mean hundreds of extra jobs for local people, and huge opportunities for local businesses.
“A Deloitte report commissioned by Fáilte Ireland in the aftermath of the 2006 Ryder Cup in County Kildare found that event was worth €143 million to the local economy.
“A boost to Limerick’s local economy on this scale would be incredibly important.
“Limerick has so much to offer visitors and we must ensure we prepare and capitalise on this unique opportunity to ensure we showcase the best of Limerick to the world.
“I have no doubt the people of Limerick will make this tournament the best one yet.”
