Hazzard welcomes news that Rathfriland water tower flags will be removed
Sinn Féin MP Chris Hazzard has welcomed confirmation that controversial flags on a water tower at Rathfriland will be removed.
The South Down MP said:
“After union flags and red, white and blue paint were put on a water tower in Rathfriland I contacted NI Water to call for their removal as the incident had caused considerable concern and anger in the local community.
“NI Water have now confirmed to me that the flags will be taken down in the coming days.
“This is a welcome and sensible move to remove these flags from the water tower.
“A police investigation into how those responsible were able to gain access to the water tower to erect these flags and paint the top of the tower is still ongoing and must continue so that an incident like this will not happen again.”
