Homeless figures remain over 10,000 for 5th month in a row- Eoin Ó Broin TD
Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin TD has commented on the publication of the Department of Housing’s official homeless figures for June which remain over 10,000 for the 5th month in a row.
Deputy Ó Broin said:
“The June homeless figures released by the Department of Housing this evening indicates that the number of people living in state- funded emergency accommodation was 10,172.
“This figure includes 3,675 children.
“The slight drop of 81 people on the previous month is welcome, however it is still 10,172 people too many living in hotels, B&Bs and family hubs.
“This is the fifth month in a row that the total number of people officially classified as homeless by the Department of Housing has been over 10,000. This shows once again that the government’s response to the homeless crisis is failing.
“We support Focus Ireland’s call for the government to urgently review its policies aimed at tackling the homelessness crisis.”
