PIP failing people with epilepsy - Begley

9 August, 2019 - by Órfhlaith Begley

Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley has said people with epilepsy are among those being failed by the British government's PIP system.

The West Tyrone MP said:

"The entire premise and approach of the British government welfare cuts agenda is wrong and the PIP process itself is fundamentally flawed. People living with epilepsy are among those being failed by the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) system.

"Many people with epilepsy lost out and had their payments reduced when PIP was introduced, leading to hardship for many.

"There are serious concerns about the assessment process, including the application form itself and the criteria.

"It is unacceptable that people in need are not able to access the vital support they are entitled to.

"There needs to be an urgent of review of how people are treated by the PIP system, including those with epilepsy.

"I have now written to the British government's secretary of state for work and pensions, Amber Rudd, raising the concerns of people with epilepsy and calling for urgent action."
