All-Ireland cooperation could help ease ambulance staff shortages - Gildernew
The Department of Health should explore increased all Ireland co-operation to assist with severe ambulance staff shortages, Sinn Féin MLA Colm Gildernew has said.
The Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA has also requested an urgent meeting with senior Health officials to discuss recent shortages and the need for a long term solution.
“The ongoing staff shortages in the Ambulance Service is causing serious concerns about ambulance cover," he said.
“It’s welcome that cross-border emergency cover has been provided in rural areas, but this must increase to assist with the crisis.
“This is a sensible and practical way to ease some of the burden on ambulance crews in the face of increased pressure resulting from summer festivals, events and concerts.
“We will be meeting with the Department of Health on these shortages and to find out what measures they are putting in place to deal with this crisis.”
