Begley welcomes progress on Strule Shared Education Campus
Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley has welcomed progress on the Strule Shared Education Campus.
Speaking after meeting with John Smith, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education alongside party colleague, Catherine Kelly MLA, the West Tyrone MP said:
“I have received confirmation that the new business case is now with the Department of Finance and is expected to be signed off on in coming weeks. A revised financial approval was required due to an increase in costs since the original business case was submitted.
“Once the business case is approved, the Department of Education should be able to resolve the outstanding procurement issue. I stressed the importance of ensuring there are no further delays in this process.
Catherine Kelly MLA added:
“While there has been some progress with the development of the site preparation works and the Strathroy link road, there needs to be progress on the construction of the main site.
“The delivery of this ground-breaking project will see the schools having state-of-the-art facilities while also enabling pupils to benefit from the opportunities provided through enhanced collaboration and sharing.
“The Strule Shared Education Campus will bring social, economic and most importantly educational benefits for our young people. This will also help regenerate Omagh town and the wider district.
“Sinn Féin will continue press for completion of this project to see its completion as soon as possible.”
