‘Children’s interests must be protected in school's future’ - Rogan

16 August, 2019 - by Emma Rogan

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Rogan has said the interests of children must be prioritised in any decision on the future of Castlewellan Primary School.

The South Down MLA said:

“A consultation is underway on the future of Castlewellan Primary School. This comes after the school merged with Annsborough Primary School in 2018.

“Regardless of the outcome of this consultation and what happens in the future, the educational wellbeing of the children must be prioritised.

“This school also has a Moderate Learning Difficulties unit for students with special educational needs.

“Any change or downgrading of this service would be detrimental to the education of these children.

“We will be meeting with Education Authority officials in the coming days to ensure children are at the centre of any future decision.”
