British government abandoned any pretence of neutrality in favour of pact with DUP - O'Dowd

23 August, 2019 - by John O'Dowd

Sinn Féin MLA John O’Dowd has said the British Secretary of State is the representative of a government which has abandoned any pretence of neutrality in favour of a toxic pact with the DUP.

John O’Dowd was responding to comments by the British Secretary of State Julian Smith today.

The Upper Bann MLA said:

"Julian Smith needs to explain the failure of his government to implement previous agreements and to live up to its responsibilities under the Good Friday Agreement.

“Julian Smith is not an observer. He is a key player and his government is actively facilitating the DUP veto on rights which are available everywhere else on these islands.

“The Tory government’s austerity cuts have had a devastating impact on public services and their drive towards a crash-out Brexit threatens to plunge us all into economic meltdown-down.

"The British Secretary of State and his government are in no position to lecture anyone. Julian Smith has a brass neck.”
