‘Concern follows residential care review’ – Kelly
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Children and Young people, Catherine Kelly has expressed concern after a major review was launched into the care of a number of vulnerable teenagers who live in residential care here.
The West Tyrone MLA was commenting after the Safeguarding Board confirmed that it was carrying out a case management review following the arrest of a residential social care worker on suspicion of child abduction, abuse of trust and drug offences in the Mid-Ulster area.
Catherine Kelly said: “It is deeply concerning that a case management review is being undertaken by the Safeguarding Board.
“Those living in care can often be some of the most vulnerable in society and they must be properly protected by those entrusted with their well-being.
“I will be requesting a meeting with the safeguarding board and with NISCC to ensure that, the review is given the priority and emphasis it needs to have.”
