Minister Doherty and her Department sending mixed messages on publication of report into Public Services Card – John Brady TD
Sinn Féin spokesperson for Employment Affairs & Social Protection John Brady TD has called on Minister Regina Doherty to make a very clear statement as to when exactly she plans to publish the Data Commissioner’s report into the Public Services Card.
Speaking following the Department’s refusal to release the report under Freedom of Information, Teachta Brady said:
“It is now a month since the Data Commissioner released a statement outlining serious findings following her lengthy investigation into the use of the Public Services Card and we still have not seen the report.
“This is despite the fact that the Data Commissioner had requested that the report be published without delay and Minister Doherty insisting that it would be published.
“We now know that a request under Freedom of Information to release the Data Commissioner’s report has been refused with the Department claiming that it would not be in the public interest to do so.
“As regards any suggestion that the publication of this report would not be in the public interest, this is absolute rubbish. It is the public who have funded this card to the tune of €60 million.
“We now need clarity from Minister Doherty as to when exactly she intends to publish the report, as she has repeatedly committed to since the Data Commissioner’s investigation first began in 2017. We cannot have a situation where Minister Doherty says one thing and her Department say the opposite.”
