Canavan welcomes £1.1 million investment for redevelopment of Springfield Dam and Park
Sinn Féin councillor Claire Canavan has welcomed a £1.1 million investment into the redevelopment of Springfield Dam and Park.
Cllr Canavan said:
“I am delighted that work will soon begin on the Springfield Dam and Park.
“This former beauty spot has become a hotspot for young people to congregate, causing a massive headache for nearby residents.
“Sinn Fein have been actively campaigning for the redevelopment of Springfield Dam and Park.
“Last night I spoke in support of the application for planning permission for the redevelopment at the Planning Committee and I am delighted that the plans which will restore the dam to its former glory were approved.
"The £1.1 million investment will be used to turn this asset into a fantastic community amenity with an added benefit of promoting health and well-being in the area. The environmental and ecological improvements are to be welcomed. They will provide additional habitats for birds and wildlife.
“The plans include purpose-built walkways, floating habitat islands, viewing areas, fishing platform and a causeway bridge.
“There will also be an outdoor event space and a proposed modular outdoor classroom which will be flexible to facilitate nature learning and potential use by local activity groups and schools.
“These plans will soon become a reality and it is anticipated that the contractor will be on site towards the end of October and will take six to eight months to complete.”
