Sinn Féin to hold public meeting in Brighton during British Labour conference - Brady

20 September, 2019 - by Mickey Brady

Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady will host a public discussion during the British Labour Party Conference in Brighton this weekend looking at Brexit, the Good Friday Agreement and Irish unity.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Newry and Armagh MP said:

"As part of our wider engagements on Brexit and Irish unity across Ireland, Britain and elsewhere, Sinn Féin will again be attending the annual conference of the British Labour Party to host a public debate and take part in a number of panel discussions.

"On Sunday I will be chairing a public debate on Brexit, the Good Friday Agreement and Irish Unity.

“The panellists will include our Leas Uachtarán Michelle O'Neill, the British Labour Party's Shadow Secretary of State for the north of Ireland, Tony Lloyd, and journalist and commentator Dawn Foster.

"We will discuss how Brexit threatens to undermine the Good Friday Agreement which provides a solution to the catastrophe of Brexit through its provision for a referendum on Irish unity paving a democratic pathway back into the EU.

"We will also be calling on the EU and Irish government to stand firm on the protections contained in the Irish backstop.

“These are the bare minimum protections required to protect the Good Friday Agreement and avoid any hardening of the border and must be maintained.

"As well as our public debate, I will also be taking part in a number of panel discussions on our international solidarity work and the role of the left across Europe and further afield."
