Adams calls for resolution to Coláiste Lú dispute

21 September, 2019 - by Gerry Adams TD

Sinn Féin Louth TD Gerry Adams has expressed Sinn Féin support for today's rally in Dundalk in support of the Irish Language.

The Louth TD has also criticised any commentary which seeks to discredit anyone, including the Principal of Coláiste Chú Chulainn, Thomas Sharkey.

Teachta Adams said:

“Sinn Féin is supporting today's Gaeilge Abú Rally in Dundalk. We will continue to work with others to resolve the dispute over the Coláiste Lú Irish language Aonad in Coláiste Chú Chulainn in the interests of the pupils.

"This dispute has become personalised. That is regrettable. I wish to repudiate any commentary which seeks to discredit anyone. This includes the Principal of Coláiste Chú Chulainn, Thomas Sharkey.

"I appeal to everyone with a grá for Irish or a duty of care for the pupils – from the government, political parties, management and parents - to work together to advance Irish medium education in Louth.

"The focus should be on ensuring that Irish children have their full rights to be educated through Irish. That is Sinn Féin’s focus”.
