Louise O’Reilly TD calls for publication of review into waiting lists flaws
Sinn Féin health spokesperson Deputy Louise O’Reilly has called on the government to release in full a completed, yet unpublished, major review into flaws in hospital waiting list reporting.
Speaking this afternoon, Teachta O’Reilly said:
“The government have in their possession a major review into the reporting of hospital waiting list data which they must publish in full as a matter of urgency.
“Health campaigners, journalists, and politicians have for some time raised serious questions about the accuracy of the reporting of hospital waiting lists, and early reports of the contents of the review back up these criticisms.
“Early indications are that Trinity College Dublin, who conducted the review, have found that the State lags significantly in comparison with international best practice for the reporting of waiting lists.
“The report was submitted to the Minister for Health in May. However, it appears that the Department of Health are delaying its publication due to the criticisms in it regarding the flawed reporting of data and the absence of targets to drive down waiting lists in the health system.
“Minister Harris and the Department should release the report as a matter of urgency, because, from the outside, it looks as though they are trying to bury it due to its contents."
