Molloy calls for more respite care provision
Sinn Féin MP Francie Molloy has called on all health trusts in the north to provide adequate respite care for families with young people with severe medical conditions.
The Mid Ulster MP said:
“Families who care for children and young adults with disabilities and medical conditions such as autism are under incredible pressure because of the lack of respite care across all Trust areas.
“These families provide excellent care for their loved ones around the clock all year round and it impacts considerably on their lives and their mental and physical health.
“Respite care provides a much-needed break for these families but many cannot access it because of lack of provision.
“There are significant gaps in respite provision across the Trust areas because of lack of resources.
“I have written to the permanent secretary of the Department of Health calling for more resources to be allocated to the provision of respite care for families across all Trust areas.”
