Mc Cann demands equality of treatment
West Belfast MLA Fra Mc Cann has demanded equality of treatment for those under threat as a result of the Castlereagh Collusion scandal.
The Falls Councillor said:
"Sinn Fein have been contacted by a large number of people whose lives are now in danger as a result of their files going missing from Castlereagh in July 2004.
Those who are on Social Security Benefits have been informed by the DHSS that, at present the maximum amount they can claim to secure their homes is £150.
Contrast this amount with the last Castlereagh 'break-in' in March 2002, blamed on Republicans and allegedly involving leaked names of PSNI and Prison Service personnel.
The NIO and British Government immediately announced a package of measures, including compulsory purchase orders of homes and re-settlement grants of tens of thousands of pounds.
This amounted to over 50 million pounds.
There should be equality of treatment among those under threat as a result of files going missing.
There should not be a two tier system of grants dependent on who you are, or who you work for.
The NIO and British Government should introduce a fair and equitable policy to secure the homes, of those under threat as a result of the latest collusion scandal." ENDS
