Crowe calls on Minister to ensure An Post respect decision of the labour court

23 November, 2005

Sinn Féin Communications spokesperson Seán Crowe TD has welcomed the recommendations issued last night by the Labour Court to resolve the dispute at AN Post and has urged Communications Minister Noel Dempsey to use his influence to persuade Management at the company to accept them.

Speaking today he said, "In response to the recommendations issued last night by the Labour Court, the Union has now called off their planned campaign of industrial action.

"Minister Noel Dempsey must now stop shirking his responsibilities and step in to ensure the workers are not forced into strike action coming into the Christmas period.

"It is the Governments position, as expressed by An Taoiseach, that the harmonious conducting of industrial relations depends on respect for the judgments of the labour court. I urge Minister Dempsey to use his influence to persuade the management at An Post to accept the Labour Court's decision." ENDS
