Crowe expresses solidarity with Irish Ferries workers

27 November, 2005

Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe has expressed the solidarity of republicans with the workers at Irish Ferries. Speaking at a commemoration to IRA Volunteers Seán O Carroll and Patrick Tierney in Ardee this afternoon he said, "The CEO of Irish Ferries earns in excess of €300,000, yet he is demanding that Irish workers take a massive pay cut or face redundancy so that he can accumulate even more wealth."

He said, "The CEO of Irish Ferries earns in excess of €300,000, yet he is demanding that Irish workers, who contribute through their sweat and labour to his enormous pay cheque each year, take a massive pay cut or face redundancy so that he can accumulate even more wealth. It's obscene and should be opposed vigorously by all who believe in a fair days pay for a fair days work.

"I would like to take this opportunity to extend the solidarity of republicans all over Ireland to those aboard the Irish Ferries vessels who are fighting tooth and nail for not only their own jobs but for the rights of all Irish workers to decent work rates and conditions." ENDS
