Dundalk Primary Care Centre cannot face any further delays – Ruairí Ó Murchú TD

Sinn Féin TD for Louth Ruairí Ó Murchú has said that the Government must make every step available to ensure Dundalk Primary Care Centre is adequately supported and funded, making sure to minimalise delays in access to such a vital service.

In response, Deputy Ó Murchú said;

“This is an update which I had sought just a few days after my election in February. I had been, with Gerry Adams, in regular contact with the HSE about this vital project for the Dundalk area.

“I am pleased that the HSE has acceded to our request to move the services, currently being operated from the unsuitable Ladywell Centre, to the new primary care centre, it seems like it will still be a year or more before this happens.

“While I understand that there have been delays due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the HSE, and the government who funds it, must ensure that the primary care centre in Dundalk is a vital piece of infrastructure for healthcare in the town and needs to be delivered without further delays or excuses about not having the funding. It has been in the pipeline for many years already and its go-ahead must be prioritised.

“Everyone knows the delays that patients are confronted with now, when too many services are located in hospital settings”.
