New gambling laws to be brought before Assembly – Ennis

Sinn Féin MLA Sinead Ennis has welcomed a commitment from Minister Carál Ní Chuilín to bring new gambling legislation to the Assembly before the end of the mandate.

The South Down MLA said:

“It’s welcome news that new gambling laws will be brought to the Assembly before the end of this mandate.

“Our current gambling laws are out of date and are in urgent need of change to ensure they are fit for purpose and keep up with changes in technology.

“Sinn Féin are committed to tackling problem gambling north and south and that is why we published our proposals and recommendations to modernise legislation.

“Problem gambling does not only affect the gambler; it has wider implications for society and lasting impacts on relationships with family and friends.

“It is important that we do all we can to protect the most vulnerable within society.”
