Sheerin welcomes move on changing places

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Sheerin has welcomed moves by Finance Minister Conor Murphy to make larger public toilets and changing facilities for people with disabilities mandatory in new buildings.

The Sinn Féin equality spokesperson said:

“I welcome the move by Finance Minister Conor Murphy to make larger toilet facilities for people with disabilities mandatory in new buildings.

“These Changing Places include accessible toilet facilities, changing benches, hoists, privacy screens and space for two carers.

“It is essential that people with disabilities and their carers have access to facilities like this in order to go about their business and live their lives with dignity.

“I would encourage all local authorities to ensure they take steps to provide changing places facilities in public buildings in order to meet the needs of people with disabilities.”
