Progress on tackling the scourge of organised crime in Tipperary 'welcomed' - Martin Browne TD
Sinn Féin TD for Tipperary Martin Browne has welcomed Gardaí progress in tackling organised crime in his constituency, following the seizure of 80 cars worth more than €2 million earlier today.
Teachta Browne said:
“The seizure of 80 cars worth more than €2 million from a car dealership in Co Tipperary is a welcome achievement for An Garda Síochana.
“The operation took place across counties Clare and Tipperary, resulting in hundreds of thousands of euro in bank accounts also being frozen.
“It is troubling to hear that Gardaí suspect a criminal gang had set up an operation in Co Tipperary for the purpose of laundering money.
“This needs to be stamped out before it begins.
“The gang is also suspected of being involved in invoice redirect fraud, which has cost businesses in Ireland millions of euro in recent times.
“Criminal gangs involved in money laundering and fraud do not care who they rip-off.
“It is despicable that these criminals have no qualms about taking advantage of private citizens and business owners when they are at their most vulnerable due to the impact of Covid-19 on their lives and their ability to do business.
“Our Gardaí must be commended for their diligent work in combating criminal activity in our communities.”
