MacManus welcomes Commission’s firm stance on Boris Brexit Behaviour

Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus has welcomed the European Commission’s actions in response to Britain’s Internal Markets Bill.

“I think the formal notice sent by the Commission concerning the Internal Market Bill is a necessary step in making sure that that the British government respects its obligations under international law. I think it shows a clear no-nonsense approach from Europe and I warmly welcome it.”

The Midlands Northwest MEP said, “The British government seem to be intent on damaging the EU and further damaging Anglo-Irish relations. It is increasingly evident that they are in no way serious about a trade agreement. They clearly understand that the European Parliament will not ratify any agreement while the offensive provisions of the Internal Markets Bill are still on the table.”

MacManus concluded “It would seem that this is the first step in an infringement procedure and the British government have nobody to blame but themselves. Whatever the eventual outcome of the legislative process in Westminster and the legal proceedings, the British government should wake up and realise that playing games is getting them nowhere. They need to listen to the majority in the six counties and implement the provisions of the Irish Protocol in full.” ENDS
