Morgan - only way forward is through the Good Friday Agreement

26 January, 2006

Dublin Sinn Féin held a protest today, to co-incide with the meeting between British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Taoiseach Bertie Ahern.  Sinn Féin is calling for the full restoration of the political institutions and the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.  Speaking at the protest Sinn Féin TD Arthur Morgan said:

"The main message of our protest today is that the only way forward is through the Good Friday Agreement.  Sinn Féin is ready to do business.  We want the British government to lift the suspension of the institutions.  We want to see the Executive restored.  We want to see the DUP play their part.  But we are not willing to see the political institutions watered down, with what powers they have taken away. We don’t want to see British commissioners running the Executive or any other half way measure.

"What we want to see are the political institutions fully restored.  That is what the governments are obliged to do and that is what must happen."ENDS
