Boylan stresses road safety ahead of winter months.

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has urged motorists to drive with care during winter months.

The Newry and Armagh MLA said:

“54 people have tragically lost their lives on the road this year, an increase from last year. One life lost on the roads is one too many.

“I would urge drivers to reduce their speed and to remind them to drive with the utmost care.

“With Vehicle testing limited at MOT centres, I would also urge drivers to ensure that their vehicle remains roadworthy.

“Meanwhile, we need a robust new road safety strategy. This should include strong awareness campaigns to push the importance of road safety.

“But we also need to improve our infrastructure. This means large projects like upgrading the A1 road, but also smaller measures like ramps, footpaths and road crossings in our local communities.

“We have a collective responsibility to drive with care. I would urge all drivers to keep that in mind and to drive carefully and reduce their speed.”
