FF and FG branded 'hypocrites' over waste privatisation stance
Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael town councillors were branded 'hypocrites' at Castlebar Town Council’s budget meeting last Thursday over their stance on the issue of waste privatisation.
The remarks came from Sinn Féin councillor Noel Campbell who claimed that waste privatisation is policy of both Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael. Councillor Campbell said, “Instead of crying false tears in this chamber and in Mayo County Council, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael councillors should be confronting their party leaderships if they truly oppose the selling off of one of this county’s essential services.”
The Sinn Féin representative who voted against the budget because financial provision was not made for a waste service for 2006 said that another important service has been wrenched from the hands of the Mayo people and handed to private companies whose overriding concern is profit and not service.
