Brogan welcomes commitment on flexible school starting age

Sinn Féin MLA Nicola Brogan has welcomed the Education Minister’s commitment to introduce legislation to provide for flexibility around the age children start school.

The West Tyone MLA said:

”I welcome the Minister’s announcement today that he intends to bring forward legislation to provide flexibility on school starting age.

”The announcement will provide some comfort and relief to many parents, particularly those with premature babies born in April, May or June

”Introducing a level of flexibility to school starting age has the potential to greatly improve longer term outcomes for these children and enhance their social and emotional development.

”I will work with colleagues on the Education Committee to scrutinise and deliver this legislation to make sure it is done right.”
