Sinn Féín MLA Cathal Boylan has written to the southern Department for Transport about the concerns of hauliers about the status of their qualifications post Brexit.
The party’s infrastructure spokesperson stated:
“I have engaged with some hauliers who live in the south who are having problems post Brexit with recognition of their northern qualifications as Transport Managers.
“Up until last year the south allow them to convert northern qualifications. That deal has expired, despite many hauliers still needing to access this scheme.
“This means that hauliers would now have to spend a significant amount of time and money to transition their licenses and qualifications to their southern counterparts.
“This is all due to Brexit, a policy unwanted and voted against by the people of the north. Through no fault of their own these hauliers have the burden of additional costs and bureaucracy.
“I have written to the Department for Transport to call for an extension of the free conversion period for these qualifications on the basis that many operators still need to access it.”
