Soiléiriú agus scéim cúitimh de dhíth láithreach do Coláistí Samhraidh agus na Mná Tí – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Soiléiriú agus scéim cúitimh de dhíth láithreach do Coláistí Samhraidh agus na Mná Tí – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

Don dara bhliain as a chéile, tá na Coláistí Samhraidh sna ceantracha Gaeltachta curtha ar ceal ag an Rialtas de dheasca na paindéime COVID-19.

Níl ceannacht ar an mhaitheas a dhéanann na Coláistí Samhraidh don gheilleagar áitiúil sna ceantracha Gaeltachta agus an obair ar son athbheochan na Gaeilge.

Chruinnigh Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD agus Mairéad Farrell TD, ar ionadaithe ar na Coláistí Samhraidh inné, 24ú Bealtaine.

Dúirt Urlabhraí Gaeltachta agus Gaeilge Shinn Féin Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD:

“Buille trom a bhí ann do na Coláistí Samhraidh agus na Mná Tí sna ceantracha Gaeltachta an cinneadh coláistí a chur ar ceal arís i mbliana.

“Ba scannallach ar fad gur fhág an rialtas an cinneadh chuig an nóiméad deireanach chun chur in iúl do na Coláistí Samhraidh nach mbeadh siad ag dul ar aghaidh, tar éis dóibh gach a dhéanamh agus a lán airgead a chaitheamh chun cloí leis na coinníollacha sláinte a cuireadh orthu.

“Tá na Coláistí ag lorg soiléiriú ó mhí Mheán an Fhómhair anuraidh agus tá an cheist seo ardaithe agamsa leis an Aire arís is arís eile.

“Bhí cluas éisteachta ar Shinn Féin inné, d’éist muid leis na buarthaí atá ar lucht eagraithe na gcoláistí.

“Ní hamháin go bhfuil airgead de dhíth ar choláistí samhraidh chun iad a choimeád ag maireachtáil agus aisíocaíochtaí len íoc acu le tuismitheoirí don samhradh seo, ach caithfidh an Roinn ullmhú anois le haghaidh Samhradh 2022.

“Beidh spásanna á gcur in áirithe ag tuismitheoirí ón Meán Fómhair seo ar aghaidh agus gan soiléiriú roimhe sin ní bheidh muinín ag daoine go reáchtálfar na cúrsaí arís. Ní féidir fanacht go dtí an nóiméad deireanach arís don tríú bhliain as a chéile.

“Tá géarghá anois go ndéanfaidh an Roinn cíoradh ar an cheist seo, go n-amharcann siad ar an scéal ar an iomlán agus go gcuireann siad pacáistí cúitimh cuí ar fáil do na Mná Tí, na hallaí pobail, agus na Coláistí Samhraidh féin.”

Clarification and an immediate compensation scheme needed by Coláistí Samhraidh and Mna Tí urgently – Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD

For the second consecutive year the Gaeltacht Summer Colleges have been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Gaeltacht Colleges are an invaluable asset to the local economy in Gaeltacht Regions alongside their contribution to the revival of the Irish language.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD and Mairéad Farrell TD met with representatives of Gaeltacht Colleges yesterday.

Sinn Féin’s Gaeltacht and Irish Language Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD said:

“The decision to cancel the summer courses came as a big blow for the Gaeltacht Colleges and the Mná Tí both.

“It is an absolute scandal that the government left it until the last minute to inform the Gaeltacht Colleges that they would not be going ahead, after all they have done and the money they have spent to comply with the health conditions placed on them.

“The Colleges have been demanding clarity from September last year, and I have raised the issue time and time again with the Minister.

“Yesterday, Sinn Féin took time to listen to the worries of those who organise Gaeltacht Colleges.

“Not alone do Gaeltacht Colleges need funding to stay afloat as they issue refunds to parents for this summer, but the Department must prepare now for Summer 2022.

“Parents will be reserving places from this September on, and without clarity beforehand, people won’t have faith that the courses will be run again. Gaeltacht Colleges cannot be left waiting until the last minute for the third year in a row.

“It is imperative that the Department veers in on this question, takes account of the massive impact this is having, and provides a compensation package for Mná Tí, community halls, and the Gaeltacht Colleges themselves.”
