Planning system must work for rural communities – Sheerin

Sinn Féin MLA Emma Sheerin has said it’s vital that the planning system works for rural communities.

Mid-Ulster MLA said:

“I raised the issue of rural planning in the Assembly, in particular the new guidance issued by the Infrastructure Minister that will make it harder for some in rural communities to get planning permission.

“The planning system must be fit for purpose and this new guidance is causing real concerns, particularly for younger people and families, in rural communities.

“I have been contacted by young couples, planning agents and people living on family farms, all of whom are concerned about what this will mean for their future.

“The planning system must be sustainable however it must also work for our rural communities.

“The Infrastructure Minister should withdraw the guidance issued by her department and meaningfully engage with local councils over the very real concerns of people in rural communities.”
