Governments failure to address ongoing inequalities experienced by women 'shameful'
Speaking in the Dáil today on International Women’s Day, Sinn Féin’s spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Human Rights, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD accused the Government of failing to address "ongoing inequalities experienced by women" saying its record in this area was "shameful".
Deputy Ó Snodaigh called for Dáil time to be set aside to discuss "the shameful failure of this government to address the ongoing inequalities experienced by women in this country."
These he said included "inequalities of earning, representation and participation in decision-making structures evidenced by this weeks Eurostat report and figures published by the Central Statistics Office at the end of last year." These figures found that around 30% of members of state boards, under 20% of members of regional and local authorities and just over 13% of TDs are women; and that womens’ income in this state was around two-thirds that of mens.” ENDS
