Martin McGuinness meet Sri Lankan Delegation
Martin McGuinness yesterday met a delegation from Sri Lanka, including Presidential Adviser, Ajith Nivard Cabraal, to discuss the peace process in Sri Lanka and the renewed negotiations between the government and the Tamil Tigers.
After the meeting Mr Mc Guinness said,
"On my recent visit to Sri Lanka I met the Sri Lankan President, his senior government ministers and also representatives of the Tamil Tigers to share with them the experiences of the Irish peace process. There is enormous interest among Sri Lankans in the Irish peace process and at all my engagements I stressed the centrality of dialogue to any conflict resolution process. I was delighted therefore to hear from the Sri Lankan delegation that peace talks have resumed in Geneva and that, in the first round of these discussions, significant progress was made.
"I expressed Sinn Fein ongoing support for the Sri Lankan peace process and our willingness to assist in any way in ensuring that the current negotiations are successful." ENDS
