Cuireann MacManus fáilte roimh deireadh an maolú teanga san AE

Cuireann Feisire Eorpach de chuid Shinn Féin, Chris MacManus, fáilte roimh deireadh an maolú teanga ar an Gaeilge san AE.

Labhair MacManus tar éis cruinniú leis an Dochtúir Davyth Hicks, Ard-Rúnaí Líonra Eorpach um Comhionannais Teanga (ELEN).

Dúirt MacManus

“ Cuirim fáilte roimh an stádas iomlán don Ghaeilge san Aontas Eorpach. Is teanga oifigiúil an AE í an Ghaeilge, de bharr sin tá sé iontach go bhfuil deireadh teacht leis an maolú teanga ar an chéad lá d’Eanáir 2022.

“Ciallaíonn sé seo go mbeidh na seirbhísí céanna ar fáil tríd Gaeilge mar atá i ngach teanga oifigiúil eile. Is maith an rud é sin.

“Is buncheist bheo í an teanga san Eorap, mar atá sí sa bhaile, agus tá Sinn Féin dírithe ar sheasamh suas ar son cearta teanga do gach duine. DEIREADH

MacManus welcomes the ending of the derogation on the Irish language in the EU

Sinn Féin MEP Chris MacManus has welcomed the ending of the derogation on the Irish language in the EU.

Speaking after a meeting with Dr. Davyth Hicks, Secretary-General at European Language Equality Network (ELEN) MacManus said:

“I welcome the status of the Irish language in the European Union. Irish is an official EU language and therefore it is fantastic to see the language derogation is due to end on the first of January 2022.

“This means that the same services that are provided to all other official EU languages will also be provided for Irish, and I believe this to be a good thing.

“Language is a live topic in Europe as it is at home, and Sinn Féin are determined to stand up for language rights for everyone. ENDS
