8 May, 2006

Sinn Féin Councillor Christy Burke today expressed his deep sadness at the death of Máire Buckley during Sunday's bus tragedy. Councillor Burke worked with Ms Buckley on many project in Dublin's inner city over the years.

Councillor Burke said:

"I want to take this opportunity to commiserate with Ms Buckley's family. Ms Buckley was a champion of the disadvantaged. She was a bright light both in the community and in her work at Rutland Street School.

"She always had the well being of the children at the centre of her work and believed that education was paramount.

"It is with extra sadness that she was just beginning to enjoy her life in retirement." ENDS
