Bull in a china shop approach by Iarnród Éireann needs to end - Crowe

17 May, 2006

Sinn Féin Transport spokesperson Seán Crowe TD has welcomed the decision of striking train drivers to return to work today after a deal was reached with Iarnród Éireann in the early hours of this morning.  Speaking today Deputy Crowe said “It is imperative that all issues relating to new working practices are thrashed out with the workers before they are introduced.”

He said, “I welcome the news that agreement has been reached between the workers and management and that services are now returning to normal.  It is in the interests of everybody including the workers, management and especially the travelling public that this dispute be brought to a conclusion.

“The management’s agreement that the new trains will not be used when the train drivers return to work today raises concerns about the manner in which they tried to introduce these trains.  It is imperative that all issues relating to new working practices are thrashed out with the workers before they are introduced. The bull in the china shop approach to human resources by Iarnród Éireann needs to end.” ENDS
