Shell's illegal road further evidence of contempt for local community - Ferris

2 June, 2006

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Natural Resources and Rural Affairs Martin Ferris TD has said the news today that a road built by Shell to facilitate their unwanted pipeline through Rossport is “further evidence, as if more was needed, of the contempt the company has shown for the local community.”

Speaking today Deputy Ferris said, “The revelation today, that a private road already built by Shell to facilitate their unwanted pipeline through Rossport has been built illegally, is further evidence, as if more was needed, of the contempt the company has shown for the local community in County Mayo.

“They should now be made to take the road back up and while they are at it they might as well take their pipeline with them because it will not be accepted by the Rossport people or by the people of Irelandwho are standing right behind them.” ENDS
