Harney must publish plans for both Crumlin and Tallaght's children's Hospitals
Sinn Féin Dublin South Central TD Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has called on the Táinaiste and Minister for Health and Children Mary Harney to publish her plans for both Crumlin and Tallaght's Children's Hospitals after the go ahead was given to locate the new 'national' children's hospital at the Matter Hospital.
Speaking today Deputy Ó Snodaigh said, "We have had the announcement that the new children's hospital is to be located at the Matter but nothing has been said about the plans for the existing Children's hospitals at Crumlin and Tallaght.
"People need to know what the plans are for both of these hospitals both in terms of the buildings themselves and the workforce. We also need to know are these hospitals now going to be completely out of bounds for children. If a child has an accident on the southside do they now need to go all the way to Phibsboro to be treated? Or are Tallaght and Crumlin going to remain open specifically as A&Es for children. Or are there any plans to set up specific regional A&Es?
"All of these questions need answering. There is no point in making announcements about what's happening in one area without telling us about the consequences for other areas. The Minister needs to publish the plans for both Crumlin and Tallaght's Children's Hospitas." ENDS
