Sinn Féin announce representatives to the Preparation for Government Committee
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams MP, speaking as the party’s Ard Chomhairle met in Dublin today, confirmed that the Sinn Féin representatives to the Preparation for Government Committee, which is meeting in Stormont on Monday, will be Martin McGuinness MP, Michelle Gildernew MP and Conor Murphy MP.
Mr. Adams said:
“The Sinn Féin Ard Chomhairle today confirmed that the party’s representatives to the Preparation for Government Committee, which is due to meet in Stormont on Monday, will be Martin McGuinness, Michelle Gildernew and Conor Murphy. The Assembly has been recalled with the stated purpose of electing a power-sharing government. It is time that the real business began.
“It is now three weeks since Peter Hain’s scaled down version of the Assembly was put in place and to date there has been no real progress. At the Ard Chomhairle today there were widespread concerns about the approach of the British government and the decision of the British Secretary of State, once again this week, to very publicly pander to Ian Paisley. The British government need to stop changing their minds every time Ian Paisley demands it.”
At the Ard Chomhairle today, party Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD briefed the party leadership on the fallout of a convicted sex offender being released from jail as a result of government inaction. In the Dáil next week Sinn Féin will be seeking to have the extra sitting of the Dáil used to begin to address the wider issues surrounding child protection which arise as a result of this case. ENDS
