Sinn Féin to host waste management campaigners at European Parliament
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre de Brún will host an all Ireland delegation of environmental campaigners at the European Parliament in Brussels between the 6th and 7th June (Tuesday/Wednesday).
The delegation will comprise campaign groups from across Ireland as well as representatives from Sinn Féin and environmental NGOs.
Speaking prior to the visit Ms de Brún said:
“This week’s visit to the European Parliament by a delegation of campaigners highlighting the issues of waste management and incineration is both welcome and significant.
“Campaigners will look at improving links with NGOs operating at a European level and will meet with the European Environmental Bureau. They will also hold talks with European Commission officials on issues including waste treatment, waste legislation, waste incineration and innovation support.
“Ireland must develop sustainable solutions to the country’s waste management crisis based on the wealth of information from many developed waste reduction programmes operating internationally. The visit by campaigners from across Ireland is about looking at best practice and advocating strategies that promote recycling and reuse as alternatives to incineration.” ENDS
