Invest NI need to wake up to Irish language business potential
Sinn Féin MEP Bairbre deBrún has called on Invest NI to wake up to the business potential of the Irish Language. Ms deBrún was speaking at "Gnó le Gaeilge 50" awards at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin today where the top fifty businesses in Ireland using the Irish language are being recognised.
Ms deBrún said:
"Here are fifty businesses using the Irish language and making a valuable contribution to the economy north and south. The potential of Irish language business has been recognised locally by entrepreneurs involved in projects such as the Gaeltacht Quarter in Belfast, yet the statutory sector has been slow to wake up to this potential and to put their weight behind it.
"It is now four years on from the publication of the West Belfast Task Force Report and eight years on from the Good Friday Agreement yet Invest NI have yet to make any real contribution to this sector and there is no indication that DETI has even thought of this in their input to proposals for the next round of EU Funding.
"It is time that Invest NI and the other Departments woke up to the extent of Irish Language business potential." ENDS
