The coming weeks will test DUP

13 June, 2006

Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MP Conor Murphy MLA speaking after the second meeting of the preparation for government committee has said that the coming weeks will test the intention of the DUP to engage in the necessary work required to re-establish the Assembly and Executive.

Mr Murphy said:

"This is only the second meeting of this committee. These meetings have only concentrated on formalities. We have already wasted a week.

"The committee now has an opportunity to get down to some serious business.

"This will test the intention of the DUP to engage in the work required for the early the return of the Assembly and Executive.

"Sinn Féin have identified a range of issues that need to be addressed by the committee, including work to ensure that we have a peaceful summer and work to secure a meaningful peace dividend including a range of measures to tackle disadvantage and support economic development." ENDS
