NorthWest must get fair share of new jobs
The Sinn Féin Chair of the Derry City Development Committee Sinn Féin Councillor Maeve McLaughlin has called on British Secretary of State Peter Hain to ensure that the second phase of the job creation by Indian Company, ICICI OneSource be situated in Derry.
Councillor McLaughlin said,
"The announcement by Peter Hain of an investment of 1000 jobs by Indian business process outsourcing Company ICICI OneSource is welcome news but we must ensure that the North West is not left out in the allocation of this major investment.
"While I understand the first phase is going to Belfast I am calling on Peter Hain to ensure that the second phase of this jobs creation scheme is in Derry as this area has all the criteria to meet the demands of the employer.
"Derry has now the adequate office facilities across the city as was seen last week with the opening of a new office complex on the Springtown Road. It also has a highly educated and motivated work pool in place that I am sure that the other international companies who have come to Derry in recent times can testify to.
"It is important that the North West is given the same advantages of attracting these jobs as the Belfast area as Derry has lost out so many times in the past.
"I will be writing as Chair of the Development Committee to Peter Hain to lobby for these jobs to be situated in the city." ENDS
