Ó Snodaigh welcomes publication of sexual assault report but criticises Government for long delay
Sinn Fein Justice Spokesperson Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD has welcomed the long overdue publication by the government of the report 'Sexual Assault Treatment Services - A Review'. Accusing the Government of dragging their feet on the issue of sexual violence Deputy Ó Snodaigh called for an urgent implementation of the report’s recommendations.
Speaking today he said "I welcome the fact that the report 'Sexual Assault Treatment Services - A Review' is finally being published today. It was ready last November and the delay is a terrible testament to the priority that the government affords this issue.“The report identifies shortfalls in the existing services for survivors of sexual violence and makes proposals to address these and it is essential that a similar delay does not characterise the implementation of these recommendations as well. The government have been dragging their feet and passing the book on the issue of sexual violence and in particular on the inadequate availability of front line services. These recommendations must be realised as a matter of urgency and there can be no excuse for any further delays.” ENDS
