Gildernew calls for action to save Fermanagh jobs

26 June, 2006

Sinn Féin Fermanagh South Tyrone MP Michelle Gildernew speaking at a Rally in Lisnaskea at the weekend has called for a more pro-active approach to saving the 188 jobs at the Ferne Foods processing plant owned by Moy Park.

Ms Gildernew said:

"It is clear that Moy Park are putting profits before the rights of workers. These are people who have worked hard to make this a profitable business. There is substantial evidence that this factory is both viable and competitive.

"It is also clear that we will continue to lose jobs in Fermanagh as long government agencies, particularly Invest NI, refuse to prioritise investment in this area. We also need to see action to address the long-term deficit in infrastructure created by under investment West of the Bann. This under investment means that it is harder to attract and sustain inward investment." ENDS
