DUP dismissal of deadline places responsibility with governments
Sinn Féin MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone Michelle Gildernew has said that Peter Robinson's very public dismissal of November 24th as a real deadline placed a huge responsibility on the two governments to begin to drive the process forward.
Ms Gildernew said:
"Over the past six weeks the DUP have time and again made a convincing case for all of us that they are not interested in building a shared future based on the principles of democracy, inclusivity and equality.
"Over the weekend Peter Robinson has very publicly dismissed the two governments much vaunted November 24th deadline. Given this and given the behaviour of the DUP over recent weeks it has long since gone past the time for the two governments to gain control of this process and begin to once again drive it forward.
"It is up to the two governments to either deliver fully functioning political institutions or end the charade which is the Hain Assembly and press forward with implementing all of the other aspects of the Agreement and then bring forward practical and effective all-Ireland provisions.
"Sinn Féin remain committed to seeing the political institutions put back in place. But we are not prepared to allow the two governments and any other parties willing to participate in farce politics to continue to undermine public confidence in the entire political process." ENDS
