Adams calls for Enterprise Action Zone for West Belfast

26 July, 2006

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams has welcomed the announcement of new multi-million pound contract for west Belfast manufacturing company Delta Print and Packaging:

"This is good news for Delta Print and Packaging and good news for West Belfast. Congratulations to Terry Cross and his team at Delta Print and Packaging.

"West Belfast needs to retain existing employment and see increased investment in this constituency to tackle chronic long term unemployment. Companies like Delta Print and Packaging, which has its base in this area, are the bedrock for the future of enterprise and job creation.

"The British government has failed to implement the comprehensive proposals contained in the West Belfast and Shankill Economic Task Force. This includes the designation of West Belfast as an Enterprise Action Zone.

I put this proposal to the Minister Maria Eagle, when I met with her last week and I hope that the Department of Enterprise Trade and Investment will move swiftly to implement this measure.

"IDB failed west Belfast : Invest NI has a poor record. It hasn't done enough. This must change. InvestNI needs to start serving the people of this area."
